[Steel Tender Update - High-Carbon Ferrochrome] The tender price for high-carbon ferrochrome (processed blocks) by Citic Pacific Special Steel for February 2025 has been announced. The tax-inclusive factory acceptance price is set at 7,800-8,000 yuan/mt (50% metal content), up 260-400 yuan/mt (50% metal content) MoM from January's 7,540-7,600 yuan/mt (50% metal content). The tender procurement volume is 2,900 mt, an increase of 500 mt MoM from January. The tender price for low-carbon ferrochrome by Citic Pacific Special Steel for February 2025 has also been announced. The tax-inclusive factory acceptance price for C.50 low-carbon ferrochrome (processed blocks) is set at 12,900 yuan/mt (60% metal content), rising slightly by 50 yuan/mt (60% metal content) MoM from January's 12,850 yuan/mt (60% metal content). The tender procurement volume is 1,400 mt, a decrease of 900 mt MoM from January.

This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
